Awareness Week 2012

We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who got behind our Bone Cancer Awareness Week in 2012. It was our most successful Awareness Week and we couldn’t have done it without you!

Each year our campaign of activities generates more interest about primary bone cancer, who it affects and what can be done to improve outcomes for the future.

2012 was no exception and saw us reach 39 million people in the UK Ireland – that’s 57% of the population!

The main aims of October’s awareness week were:

  • To improve public awareness and understanding of primary bone cancer in the UK and Ireland
  • To influence people to show their support and get involved during the week

Key highlights for us were a five-minute feature on BBC Breakfast TV with BCRT patron Marc Woods and bone cancer survivor Frankie Haigh appearing on Calendar News.

We also were delighted to see BCRT chief exec Julia Kermode appear on ITV News as well as securing national coverage in The Times, Nursing Times, Metro and The Sun.

In total we gained 95 pieces of media coverage, including two national and four regional TV hits, six radio hits, five national and 40 regional newspapers and two health specialist magazines.

All in all we reached 24 million readers, 338,000 radio listeners, 2.5 million TV viewers and saw our web traffic tripled with two million visitors clicking on to our site.

And of course we were delighted to see so many of you support Awareness Week by holding Bake It For Bone Cancer events and spreading the word among your family and friends.
