Bone Cancer Patients Forum |
Your Company and Bone Cancer Research Trust
Around 400 young people develop bone cancer each year in the UK. Current treatment depends on the intensive use of chemotherapy, surgery and in some cases radiation therapy. Treatment can extend over many months and, whilst many patients now survive, many do not. Currently, the survival rate for osteosarcoma is some 55% at 5 years and that for Ewing’s sarcoma is around 60% at 5 years.
Building relationships with companies enables us to commit to funding more research into Bone Cancer, and hopefully into saving young lives in the future, raising awareness of Bone Cancer and in helping us to support people affected by Primary Bone Cancer.
A partnership with Bone Cancer Research Trust has excellent commercial advantages with many major companies motivating their employees and customers through fundraising-focused campaigns and initiatives. By tailoring the benefits to meet your company’s needs we can ensure that by entering a partnership with Bone Cancer Research Trust, your rewards can be as great as ours. Some benefits include:
Donations and Grants
This year, the Bone Cancer Research Trust needs to raise over £250,000 to fund the research activities that it has approved and to agree to the funding of more vital research projects into both osteosarcoma and Ewing’s sarcoma. All of our income comes from voluntary contributions from individuals and companies. Bone Cancer Research Trust is a national charity, but we are small enough for your corporate support to have a real impact on the research work.
A charitable donation or grant from your company will help to fund:
If your company has funds set aside for charitable purposes, we would love to hear from you so that we can tell you more about the research that we fund that needs your support. We would also be happy to discuss any potential publicity of your support to maximize the PR benefits of your charitable giving.
Many companies support charities that their employees nominate. Does the company you work for support charities? If so, why not nominate Bone Cancer Research Trust.

Charity of the Year/Month
Adopting Bone Cancer Research Trust as your company’s chosen charity is a great way of focusing your support. We can help you develop a programme of activity that best fits your company and its employees. With our calendar of events you’ll never run out of fantastic ideas to focus your Charity of the Year and Employee fundraising activities on.
No matter how big or small your company is, we can provide you with the support needed to make a charity of the year partnership with Bone Cancer Research Trust work for you. We will ensure that we both get the best from the affiliation and have fun at the same time.
For more information, please contact David Fisher in our fundraising department by email to david@bonecancerresearch.org.uk or phone on 0113 2621852.
Payroll Giving
Payroll Giving is a great way for you to demonstrate commitment to the good causes that your employees care about. Quick and easy to set-up and administer, it can also aid retention and recruitment of staff, and enable you to generate a vital income stream to charities.
For your employees, Payroll Giving is an easy way to give to Bone Cancer Research Trust benefiting them with immediate tax relief. All they need to do is fill out one simple application form, stating how much they would like to give. The system is easy to opt in and out of, giving donors full control over their giving.
From our perspective, payroll donations provide a vital and reliable income stream, allowing us to plan ahead and budget for the future.
The launch of the Payroll Giving Quality Mark in January 2006 recognises and rewards organisations for making Payroll Giving available to their staff. The Quality Mark comprises a certificate and logo, as well as Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards.
To set up a Payroll Giving scheme, all you have to do is sign up with a Payroll Giving Agency who will transmit the donations on your behalf – it’s as easy as that. All modern payroll systems can facilitate Payroll Giving, usually as a simple tick box option. Your payroll staff will deduct the amount, as per any other pre-tax deduction (after National Insurance, but before tax) and forward it on to your Payroll Giving Agency, who will distribute the monies to your employees’ chosen charities.
So don’t delay, make Payroll Giving available to your employees today. For more information, please contact David Fisher in the fundraising department by email to david@bonecancerresearch.org.uk or by phone on 0113 2621852.
