BCRT becomes an NIHR Partner Organisation for Project and Pump Priming Grant funding stream – 1st October 2009
The National Institute for Health Research, Clinical Research Network, Coordinating Centre aims to build a complete picture of the clinical research which is currently taking place across the UK in order to manage the allocation of NHS infrastructure funding. Targeting resources to support the recruitment and follow-up of patients in clinical trials and other well designed studies will increase the timeliness, data collection and quality of the research by building skill and expertise in the research workforce to undertake research with continuity of support.
NIHR Partner status will ensure that studies funded by BCRT will be eligible for inclusion in the Portfolio (including other partner organisations). This will allow our research projects to have access to clinical infrastructure/NHS Service Support through the NIHR Clinical Research Networks.
In summary, this is very exciting news for BCRT as it will help our researchers fund their projects at no extra cost to the charity, which ultimately will make us very attractive to new researchers.

Inigo Writes Christmas Song for CHORF – 6th November 2008
“Magic Christmas” written by Inigo and produced by Paul Brooks will be available to download online very soon! All profits will go to the BCRT. This is the story behind the song...
Christopher Hardman – a promising magician – tragically died at the age of 15 of a rare form of bone cancer – osteosarcoma. This young man lived his life to the full and when diagnosed with this aggressive illness faced his plight with great bravery. uring his life and particularly throughout the course of his illness his great zest for life and determination to ensure all around him enjoyed his company has left all who knew him with many “Memories in the Snow” at Christmas time. Christopher had a magic for everyone.
The single written and performed by Inigo is to remind us of Christopher and other young people affected by this killer disease. All profits from the record are to go to the Christopher Hardman Osteosarcoma Research Fund (CHORF) in order that a cure for this aggressive illness – which kills between 150 and 200 young people every year in the UK alone – can be found.
Inigo – a close friend of the Hardman family – is an up and coming singer songwriter now aged 17 who has previously released two solo albums and a single and has opened for acts such as Beyonce, Dionne Warwick and Paul Carrack and who has also performed at the Royal Albert Hall and the Stowe Music Festival amongst other events. Inigo performed at the first ever fund raising concert for CHORF at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall in late 2005.
Christmas should be a magical time for all of us, particularly children. Let’s try to make sure that the opening lines of this song – “We will lose someone this Christmas, it will be someone that we love” is not the result of losing a young person to osteosarcoma. Let’s make Magic. Christopher did.
